Life Drawing
Tutor: Bella Franks
This class will guide you through the fundamentals of Life Drawing. The class has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, that builds on a range of techniques, in a relaxed environment. The life model performs a variety of poses, whilst the tutor gives guidance to learn the different methods of life drawing. Suitable for all abilities, this class facilitates creative expression through a relaxing practise.

Death Cafe
At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. The objective is ‘to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives’. A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group not a grief support or counselling session.

Sound and Gong Bath
We welcome back Odette and London Gong for a treat for the mind, body and soul.
Gong baths and sound meditation are also know as sound therapy or gong therapy. Gong baths encourage deep relaxation and are ideal for stress release, anxiety and insomnia.
During the Sound and Gong Bath a variety of instruments are played which include Koshi Chimes, Singing Bowls, Ocean Drums, Bells and Rattles and the Gong.
Members can join this session by either sitting in a chair, or lying down on a yoga mat.

Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style

This is a member-led activity, there will be no Claremont staff member on this trip.

Soca Dance Workshop with Marta from Nzinga Dance Company
We welcome back Marta from Nzinga Dance Company, to lead us in a full Soca dance workshop!
Soca dance is a high energy, joyful Caribbean movement born from the rhythm of Soca music in Trinidad and Tobago. Following a taster dance session at our Notting Hill Carnival party, Marta will give us a more in depth session in Carnival dances move, learning the core characteristics of the Soca dance style.
Marta is the Artistic Director of Nzinga Dance Company, and a dynamic Dance Artist and Tutor. Marta specialises in cultural dance traditions of Africa and the Caribbean.

Film Screening of In Search of Sandra Laing and Q&A with the Anti-Apartheid Legacy: Centre of Memory and Learning
Our museum neighbours, the Anti-Apartheid Legacy: Centre of Memory and Learning (on the corner of White Lion St and Penton St) will screen the documentary In Search of Sandra Laing at Claremont. The documentary offers rare and powerful insights into life under apartheid in South Africa at a moment when the country’s system of racial oppression was facing increasing resistance within South Africa and around the world.
Following the screening, we will be joined by the museum’s Trustees and those with lived experience of apartheid, to lead a discussion and Q&A about the film.

Claremont Exhibits Opening Reception: Memories
The Memories exhibition invites Claremont members to explore the past, people and places. From memories that fade to ones you want to reimagine; or ones you want to reignite. Members have created a fantastic collection of artworks including watercolour, life drawing, creative writing and photography.
Please join us for the opening reception, where you can enjoy a glass of bubbles and peruse the exhibition. Friends and family are welcome!

Halloween Ball
Come and dance the afternoon away at Claremont’s Halloween ball, hosted by the fabulous Salsa dancer, Guilia Settomini!
You are MORE than welcome to come in fancy dress, we always love a spooky outfit! Fear not, dressing up is not mandatory, so please wear whatever you feel comfortable in.
A modest selection of refreshments will be provided, but member contributions of food and drink are very much welcomed and encouraged. So if you’re a dab hand in the kitchen or know of a delicious snack from your favourite shop, please bring something along!

Our Coffee & Culture Mornings are a chance to grab a drink, have a chat and spend time with people who share your interests.
Each morning has a different theme – dance, art, music or film – giving you an easy way to start a conversation, discover something new or connect with someone who enjoys the same things you do. You might come along with a classmate, meet someone new or simply use it as an excuse to sit down and have a good chat.
